AAAA Welcomes Historic Australia-UAE Trade Agreement, Boosting Opportunities for Australian Automotive Manufacturers
The Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association (AAAA), the peak body representing Australia’s automotive manufacturing industry, welcomes the recently concluded Australia-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). This milestone trade deal, the first of its kind between Australia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), provides Australian businesses with unprecedented access to the UAE market.
Under the agreement, 99% of Australian products, including manufactured goods, will benefit from reduced or eliminated tariffs when exported to the UAE. This significant reduction in trade barriers offers Australian automotive manufacturers—particularly those producing 4WD and high-performance vehicle upgrades and accessories—an opportunity to expand their reach into the UAE and the broader Middle East region.
“The UAE is an important market for Australia’s automotive sector, and this agreement provides our industry with the confidence to explore opportunities on a larger scale within the region. We commend the Federal Government, and in particular Senator the Hon Don Farrell, Minister for Trade and Tourism, for delivering this landmark deal,” said Stuart Charity, CEO of the AAAA.
The UAE already represents a key market for Australian automotive exports, with nearly 20% of all Australian automotive manufacturing exports destined for the UAE. The removal of tariffs will further strengthen this trade relationship, benefiting local manufacturers and creating new growth opportunities in the region.
Nigel Bishop, AAAA’s 4WD Industry Council Convenor, also welcomed the announcement, highlighting the positive impact on Australia’s 4WD aftermarket industry. “We’re especially excited for our 4WD manufacturing members, whose products are highly regarded in the UAE for their durability and engineering excellence. The timing is perfect as we prepare to lead our regular trade mission to Automechanika Dubai.”
In line with the AAAA’s commitment to promoting Australian innovation, the association will host an Australian Pavilion at Automechanika Dubai—a premier event for showcasing Australian-made products to international markets.
The AAAA will bring a delegation of innovative companies to Automechanika Dubai, including Redarc, Powerdown Australia, Zeder Corporation, Pfitzner Performance Gearboxes, and Leisure-Tec Australia. These businesses will showcase a wide range of products, from high-performance transmission components to heavy-duty 4WD/off-road electronics, accessories, and suspension systems.
