Sold-Out 4WD Industry Council Breakfast Promotes New GCM Code

The 4WD Industry Council’s (4WDIC) Networking Breakfast held at the National 4×4 Outdoors Show in Brisbane on Friday 17th March was a resounding success.

The sold-out event saw over 85 4WD industry representatives from companies across the state gather to network and learn the latest important industry updates.

Special guest for the event was Paul Kulpa, MTA Queensland Director of Industry Initiatives. Paul shared their exciting new traineeship offering for QLD’s 4WD automotive accessory fitters and the opportunity to be among the first to earn the new qualification; AUR22021 – Certificate II in Automotive Accessory Fitting.

AUR22021 is the proud culmination of years of work by the 4WDIC and industry stakeholders. The traineeship being offered through MTAQi is the first training pathway in the country to incorporate the new qualification; supporting the growing 4WD sector. The 4WDIC hopes this traineeship is the first of many across the country and we encourage our QLD-based members to support the program.

Nigel Bishop, 4WDIC Convenor, shared an update on the new Queensland Gross Combination Mass (GCM) Code, an important win for Queensland recreational motorists and aftermarket 4WD product manufacturers.

Updates were also provided on the Queensland Code of Practice for high lift vehicle modifications guidelines, and the release of the Queensland Road Vehicle Modification Handbook.

Lesley Yates, Director of Government Relations for the AAAA, introduced the exciting new National Light Vehicle Modifications Summit to members, which will be another important development for the 4WD Industry. The Summit is a chance for 4WD accessory manufacturers to collaborate and influence national vehicle standards. Vehicle modifiers can register for the exclusive event at www.autocare.org.au/modsummit

The event was hugely valuable for all in attendance. The next 4WD Industry Council Breakfast will take place on Thursday 18th August in Melbourne. Please save the date, with more information available via our communication channels in due course.
